The last version of this site just didn’t work very well and I had to hit the refresh button on this site. Don’t know if this permutation will take hold or not, but I am a terrible optimist…which makes me both delusional and dangerous.
Sketch (@2009): Part of an ongoing planes, trains, and automobiles series. These sketches are completed while in transit, usually while sitting next to strangers. This one has a title, but I forgot it. Completed on a flight between Memphis and RDU.
Attachment: The thing that occurs when I really, really like something in a piece that I’m working on. In painting when said phenomenon happens things can get ugly and slowly. If I totaled up the number of hours I’ve compiled trying to preserve some beloved section of a painting, or in preserving some ideal – I’d probably be able to fly free for a year. On the other hand, how much time does it take to learn how to “listen” (as my former professor Marvin Saltzman advises) to the work AND to the heart.
Without attachment, the lesson of learning how (and when) to let go is potentially lost. And that would be sad indeed because from that lesson comes a potential bevy of gifts – the unexpected flight after a leap of faith (hehe – or not, oops), the hidden connection made evident, or the private “are you serious?” moment of self-discovery.
So yea, that’s some of what this blog is going to be about if I can work it up to some consistency … that and a little music from time to time. After all, painting and music do go hand in hand. You have been warned however, I have a major trance and progressive house habit.
